I'd like to think not.
I'd like to think that the electorate would shrug its shoulders and accept that it's a non-story, like TSL says up ^there^.
But, then again, I'd like to think that the electorate would happily go for a competent but unpleasant person over a well-presented fool - but I don't.

My point is fairly formal.
As for Brown's competence: I'm not so sure. Obviously, I think he's made some mistakes, but I'm not sure that he's any worse than anyone else'd've been; and, from what I can tell, there's a reasonable amount of economic opinion that's at least vaguely supportive of his handling of the recession.
