I've done a similar demo with air bubbles as markers in a viscoelastic fluid (part viscous, part elastic). You turn it abruptly, and when you stop turning, the elasticity of the fluid causes it to partially rewind all by itself. This was about 14 years ago, and I unfortunately don't have any film :(
