I think you've grasped the wrong end of the stick here as regards the so-called 'sacrilege'.

The Irish have been saying for YEARS.... goddamn YEARS! that that flappy twat is an American, and the rest of the world have been attributing the gobshite on us.

So when this thick m*therf*cker comes along with his smug twat face and his smug twat attitude and tries to get a rise out of the guy by throwing back in his face what we've all been saying for so long... well, I'd react with anger as well.
