This is a link post Film 6/52: With Love I made this!
My sixth film in my 52 films/1 year project is in honor of Valentine's Day. I'm not really sure if you would say this is NSFW. There's fake blood, but it's not really graphic... at least, I don't think so... But some of you have already told me I need to seek help, so who am I to decide?

This is a normal post constructive critisism,
the blood is too watery, and the heart, knife thing is a bit obligutary.
You should have used a sheeps heart..

no offense.

This is a normal post No offense taken
I'm vegan, so we made the heart- and we made it with what supplies I already had available to me without going out to buy new stuff and taking up more time than I had allotted.

As for the blood, thanks for the tip, but due to technical and time constraints, we had to use faucet water to fill up the balloon that is inside the prosthetic to get the effect. It's a mix between water and a cornstarch blood recipe.

Also, I know it's been done a thousand times- but what hasn't?

This is a normal post going to the moon
but then again, not many people can do that on your budget either.

Also, Isn't ketchup suitable for vegans? That and a bit of water should have made it runny enough but thick enough to look like blood. I don't know anyone who doesn't keep ketchup around :)

This is a normal post Ketchup might have worked
But I think ketchup has more of an orangey coloration when it's diluted. I also think that when you add water to ketchup, ketchup doesn't stay thick or thicken it up. If anything, I would have needed Caro syrup, which I didn't have. I usually make syrupy blood, but my SFX kit has been low on supplies (same with my kitchen) for some time and I haven't had the money to stock it.

Also, ketchup gives me hives. Once while making a short film for school, I had to fit myself in a dryer while covered in ketchup to act as blood (because it was black and white 16 mm film and we didn't have chocolate) and I discovered that my skin is allergic to it. So after that, I don't really use ketchup regardless if I am in the film or not... And I'm not sure I had any.
