A Tabla Lesson... Pandit Nakul Mishra Tabla
This guy has some great instructional videos and he sings the tabla rhythm before he plays it. Great stuff. Strangely this reminds me of the Eddie Izzard video when he speaks in French - Can't understand a word but know exactly what he means.

The whole singing the rhythm thing is how they teach tabla
Sometimes a student will go without tabla and will just learn to sing the rhythm and then go home and learn to play it on the tabla. It's like vocal sheet music if you will.
