But, whilst I'm sure this will be an unpopular view, isn't it just a case of "Singer Sings Song Shocker!"? Always has happened always will. I don't know, I guess i'd feel funny and have pause if it were one of my songs. But that's a dilemma I'm highly unlikely to run into.
I dunno I just always feel this sort of thing has far more to do with social identity than actual music. I'm being highly inarticulate today, I think I'll just shut up. I've written pages of very civil debate about this in the past, not feeling capable today.
Whichever way you swing though, its also worth bearing in mind that the degree to which his nod means anything or is his own nod at all depends entirely upon the nature of his publishing agreements and to what degree he signed his rights away. Which I guess you can argue was entirely within his control at the time.
