At one point I tried it on him in the garden and he ran off into neighbour's garden. I really hope they saw him in his little tie :D

Imagine if the neighbours then thought that WAS the fashion and put one on their cat.
And then the two cats met in the garden, with ties on... and had a fight!!!
It'd be like a cat boardroom with a hostile takeover going down!
