mostly due the massive amount of discussion I've seen here.
For the people who hated it, would you say it's more likely for an audience member to A: be absolutely pissed that they paid to watch the film or B: to be pleased to have seen it rather than missed it, despite some underlying hatred for the writers?

If you're looking for an action movie that resembles what the trailer promises, I'd try n get a cheaper ticket.
*edit* just remember the two most important points, this is set BEFORE anything is known about the Aiens, and it is NOT self contained, so don't expect everything to tie up neatly at the end.

It has numerous problems but it's visually engaging with some nice ideas, so as much as I dislike several parts of it, I would still recommend it.
The 'operation' scene is quite something.

Worth it just for that I reckon, it was the only feckin peace I got from the stupid chav bitch next to me rustling her friggin Haribo thru out anyhoo, she couldn't face 'em for at least 20 minutes after that.

There was a kid sat next to me who kept 'announcing' which superhero would appear on screen before it happened, at one point he got confused and said Tony Stark was the Hulk.
I can laugh now though as I raped his mother.

There's a guy on fire running down a hallway, he turns to me and says
'Fuck this, I'm off for some Kentucky'
This amused me greatly, plus it's a quote from 24 Hour Party People, which is goode.

It's an enigmatic film that is challenging and will make you want to learn more about it.
I fully recommend people watch it. Very few people have said it was a waste of their money.

Thanks for the opinions, folks. I'm going to give it a go (and then I'll actually be able to read these discussions).

Don't expect to feel engaged to any of the characters, or care about them, try and ignore the overblown and sometimes cheesy patriotic soundtrack, same with much of the script..and Idris Elbas accent :D
Enjoy it for how visually stunning it is.

never actually had any lines, so I was really concerned for their welfare
by 'like' I mean it was not good, also it really had too many characters
'David' was very good, Fassbender excellent again, he could have carried the whole film, he reminded me Asimov's Foundation novels.

but then he didn't have much competition in the 'great character' stakes.

Plus Laurel and Hardy who got 'lost'.

you'd have thought that people picked for a such a mission would have been strictly vetted for personality flaws and and intelligence. Seems any dumb twat could have a trip into Space under the guise of being a "scientist" haha

Erm..isn't this a scientific mission/whatever, a minor point, but it bugged me.
I never got the impression that Laurel and Hardy were scientists, douchebags, yes.

even the lowliest of scientists could think more rationally than that pair.

You know, go into the woods alone, run UP stairs, stand by the window, shout BEFORE they fire, etc, but they were meant to be experts in their field, not bloody stoned teenagers.
Ah well...

but then at the last minute change your mind and watch another one instead.

some dude was sat in front of me, watched the whole film, then got up and walked out 10 minutes from the end.

I may have expanded on my answer but hey ho.
I went not expecting much, and as much as I found the plot full of holes it was the lack of basics of narrative and character development that got me the most, considering this is from one of our great artisans.
I enjoyed it for it's visual splendour, and the discussions it has created, nothing I like more than talking about filums. :D

Worth the money, kept me interested for its full duration.
