This is a normal post I am considering seeing this film tonight
mostly due the massive amount of discussion I've seen here.

For the people who hated it, would you say it's more likely for an audience member to A: be absolutely pissed that they paid to watch the film or B: to be pleased to have seen it rather than missed it, despite some underlying hatred for the writers?

This is a normal post Depends, if you're a fan of the whole alien franchise and want to follow this continuing story it's a must see
If you're looking for an action movie that resembles what the trailer promises, I'd try n get a cheaper ticket.

*edit* just remember the two most important points, this is set BEFORE anything is known about the Aiens, and it is NOT self contained, so don't expect everything to tie up neatly at the end.

It has numerous problems but it's visually engaging with some nice ideas, so as much as I dislike several parts of it, I would still recommend it.

The 'operation' scene is quite something.

This is a normal post Having seen it twice now, that scene stopped the fucking cinema DEAD both times
Worth it just for that I reckon, it was the only feckin peace I got from the stupid chav bitch next to me rustling her friggin Haribo thru out anyhoo, she couldn't face 'em for at least 20 minutes after that.

This is a normal post Not as bad as when I went to see the Avengers
There was a kid sat next to me who kept 'announcing' which superhero would appear on screen before it happened, at one point he got confused and said Tony Stark was the Hulk.

I can laugh now though as I raped his mother.

This is a normal post he's also quite fat and likes telling you stuff when you're watching a film
that said, some of the stuff he says is hilarious

though I usually try not to sit next to him

Japes!

This is a normal post I remember when we saw Lord of the Rings 3
There's a guy on fire running down a hallway, he turns to me and says

'Fuck this, I'm off for some Kentucky'

This amused me greatly, plus it's a quote from 24 Hour Party People, which is goode.

This is a normal post It's epic in IMAX 3D the film is good regardless of what you walk away feeling like at the end of it.
It's an enigmatic film that is challenging and will make you want to learn more about it.

I fully recommend people watch it. Very few people have said it was a waste of their money.

This is a normal post very well
Thanks for the opinions, folks. I'm going to give it a go (and then I'll actually be able to read these discussions).

Don't expect to feel engaged to any of the characters, or care about them, try and ignore the overblown and sometimes cheesy patriotic soundtrack, same with much of the script..and Idris Elbas accent :D
Enjoy it for how visually stunning it is.

This is a normal post I like how two of the three guys who do 'that thing'
never actually had any lines, so I was really concerned for their welfare

by 'like' I mean it was not good, also it really had too many characters

'David' was very good, Fassbender excellent again, he could have carried the whole film, he reminded me Asimov's Foundation novels.

This is a normal post I thought he was great too
but then he didn't have much competition in the 'great character' stakes.

This is a normal post Vickers was a waste of time.
Plus Laurel and Hardy who got 'lost'.
(, Sun 24 Jun 2012, 21:24, Reply)
This is a normal post Those two so called scientists who got lost was probably the lowest part of the film
you'd have thought that people picked for a such a mission would have been strictly vetted for personality flaws and and intelligence. Seems any dumb twat could have a trip into Space under the guise of being a "scientist" haha

This is a normal post Also, doesn't the guy with the mohawk tell Noomi that he's in this for the 'money'?
Erm..isn't this a scientific mission/whatever, a minor point, but it bugged me.

I never got the impression that Laurel and Hardy were scientists, douchebags, yes.

This is a normal post Most stupidest scientist ever
even the lowliest of scientists could think more rationally than that pair.

This is a normal post Yeh I had issues with them, I know it's a crucial plot point in these sorta movies that you have some idiots that do all the shit they aren't supposed to
You know, go into the woods alone, run UP stairs, stand by the window, shout BEFORE they fire, etc, but they were meant to be experts in their field, not bloody stoned teenagers.

Ah well...

This is a normal post Probably best if, like I did, he went to see it not having any expectations
just go to enjoy a movie.

This is a normal post Probably best to go to the cinema to see this movie,
but then at the last minute change your mind and watch another one instead.

This is a normal post They did ask.
I may have expanded on my answer but hey ho.
I went not expecting much, and as much as I found the plot full of holes it was the lack of basics of narrative and character development that got me the most, considering this is from one of our great artisans.
I enjoyed it for it's visual splendour, and the discussions it has created, nothing I like more than talking about filums. :D
