TIGHAR is currently searching the ocean around Nikumaroro (formerly Gardner) island, looking for wreckage of Amelia Earhart's plane.
The project is set to last 4 weeks. They're into week 2, and already they've identified some possible targets that they'll be investigating further in the next few days.
There's been a fair amount of circumstantial evidence that she crashed there and later died on the island, but no firm proof. Finding identifiable parts of the plane is probably the only remaining way of settling the matter.

Subject line should say: That is a fair question I suppose...
but the thing is, there are still plenty ofpeople who are intrigued by it, myself included.
Not really sure why... although I got a lot more interested when I read a transcript of what might have been one of her final messages,
supposedly broadcast after the crash and picked up on ham radio. It gave it some poignancy, and something of the feeling of a detective story.
Why can't I edit the subject line?
