I suppose if they were "rioting and looting" as the article suggests then that is fair enough.
Can't really formulate any conclusions without knowing the evidence, some of the london rioters got stiffer sentences than that. If they were just innocently protesting then yeah thats a bit fucking harsh. I really don't know alot about the situation, I don't even know if the police aggravated it in the first place before they started shooting. I wasn't really paying attention.
Edit: oh I see, the police shot a couple of G's and then everyone kicked off, just like london then.

some of the London rioters smashed shop windows and carried stuff off.
In fact that's mostly what went on.
After hurricane Katrina, they were shooting looters on sight.
