M'lord the defendants have clearly stolen my clients design for a laptop as theirs also has a folding screen that closes over a keyboard.
Back in the early 2000s all phones looked the same, all flatscreen tv's are large rectangles on stands. It really doesn't make sense to me that apple can have exclusive rights to a rectangular touch screen device.

Nokia were showing full touch screen prototypes way before the iPhone.
I had a Sony P800 which was a touch screen and very similar (once the optional folding keypad was removed).
If you want to make a touch screen phone and use the frontal area economically while making it easy to hold in your hand and keep in your pocket, there are not many options. They didn't come up with a radical solution - it was just the obvious one that everyone else had already figured out.
