unless they scrap all railway systems in the world... I can't see anyone stumping up the cash for that! Or the planning permission required! etc etc etc

Imagine the vast number of trains and trams there would have to be in order the enable all of the different branch lines to dock together.
Then imagine how many of those trains would be affected if one single train has a problem and had to stop or slow down.
I reckon it's a spectacularly silly and wasteful idea. Just go to Japan or Switzerland and see how fantabulous their train connections are.

With intermediary 'pods' so express trains only had to slow down as disembarkers moved from the train to the pod, which then stopped at the station....
