This is a normal post Car manufacturers, amongst others, use them to make 3D models of prototype components.
I've watched them make an engine block like this, it brilliant :)

This is a normal post We have 2 massive ones in uni
that I used a lot last year. They're fucking ace. Expensive to use though. :(
