Single sentence harking back to an anecdote from one hour ago.
Pretend annoyance that the laughter wasn't quick or loud enough.
"Explanation" that that was a callback, and half of the audience are too asleep to realise it.
The latter then dragged out for the next 20 minutes in order to fill some time up.
