Furry Freak Brothers
The Furry Freak Brothers comic books have exactly this storyline when they are out of dope and "Dr Freakears" (Phineas)invents a machine that filters particles swept out of the carpet according to colour. They end up with a large pile of green flakes (marijuana), some white flakes (cocaine) but mainly a strange pile of yellow particles that they figures out was caused by all of those cans of beer that got spilled!!!

I'm sure it would work at least to a degree - back in the when I used to smoke (can't now to severe asthma)I did find a lump of Moroccan that served for two decent joints whilst cleaning my shag pile carpet

I've seen it done...
....womens stocking over the end of the hoover pipe thingy. Lets all the dust through, but keeps the blims.
