thanks, ringofyre

The horror, the horror
There I was about 6 or 7 years old and minding my own business watching Baggy Pants and the Nitwits on a late Sunday afternoon when a powercut chose that moment to turn everything off in the area.

What was to be done? My cartoon viewing had been interrupted and being late autumn night was already closing in. I was dumbfounded, without anything to do and my boredom threshold was being reached rapidly.

Then my mother made a suggestion.... "Let's go to early evening Mass where they sing hymns".

Not the mass that lasts a minimum of an hour.

Noooooooooooooooooooo.

Thirty years later and I'm still traumatised by it.

When on holiday with my nan in Ireland as a child
I got dragged to Mass one day and honestly, if I'd been abducted by aliens I don't think I would have been any more disorientated. The whole scenario was a complete mystery from start to finish.

Pah.
I've been to mass and it has nothing on a full Elton John concert on the big screen. They once showed one in the local cinema, when I was a kid (back when it still existed), before a children's matinee. I still wake up in a cold sweat of terror with an image of that mouth hovering around the microphone in my head.
/me tries to drink more to forget.
