I remember our local bus companyIn Stoke-on-Trent, the bus company used to be known as Potteries Motor Traction - yes, PMT, for short.
It achieved the rare accolade of an appearance in The Book of Heroic Failures after city councillor Arthur Chollerton defended the practice of empty buses sailing past people waiting at bus stops by saying something like: If the drivers stopped to pick up passengers, it would disrupt the timetable.

i can vouch for that.i remember hearing that read to me from a newspaper when i wuz a student in Nottingham circa '88/'89 at the height of the devolved bus thingy.
