I've not read entry so farbut most of them I have, and hey all seem to reference UK banks. Are non-UK banks really that ace, or do people not like to complain about them?

Well I havehave a Barclays account in the UK (since 1992) and a Deutsche Bank account in Germany (since 1989) - never had any bother with either of them.
