What's wrong with jewel cases?
They're not exactly huge. And they're better than these cheapo cardboard things which don't fit properly in the racks.
OK, if you have 5000 CDs, then they're going to take up a lot of space. But that's about £50k worth, and if you can afford that you can afford a big house with lots of CD racks.
