Strictly speaking, the Internet has actually run out of bits. Let's put it this way, yesterday evening I had the pleasure of dining at the Restaurant At The End Of The Internet, and the MaƮtre'd was quite insistent that they were out of bits.
He did say that initially they'd catered for 32, and have bent over backwards to accommodate late-comers, but that after a late-show by some Chinese high-rollers and some grass-skirt-wearing chaps from Nirvutula, they were all out of bits.

I heard rumor it was the same artful bodgers who'd decided that 2 digits was plenty to indicate year in the date field. Caused a bit of a stir round the turn of the century, didn't they.
