This is a question Bodge Jobs

If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of duck tape, it's not worth fixing at all, my old mate said minutes before that nasty business with the hammer and a roll of duck tape. Tell us of McGyver-like repairs and whether they were a brilliant success or a health and safety nightmare.

My boxer/Staffie was scared of thunder (and fireworks) too
and used to wreck the joint in his efforts to escape the house and find me. I eventually had to chain him to the stairs when I was out in case there were loud bangs as otherwise he'd be gone.

That worked, in that he was safe from running off, but he'd attack the woodwork instead. He gnawed a hole through the bathroom door, chewed up a wooden ironing board and kitchen trolley and bit the handle of a Dyson off.

Bless him, he lived to nearly 14 and I was never angry with him. I miss him but I don't miss replacing the architraves!

my old labrador was scared of those things
but also of frying foods, grilling sausages, anything that went bang or crack at all, and for some inexplicable reason, the end of round klaxon from the shitty BBC snooker-based game show Big Break.

Used to drive her mental. You'd have to go and find her, usually in the garden behind the greenhouse, where she'd be sat trembling.
