Books
We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

Books are better than television.
Scientific fact.
Whatever you watch, it will never be as good as even the most basic children's book.
It's not about how you WANT to learn, it's about how you SHOULD learn.
And books is best.

So Dan Brown is better than The Wire? Neato.

Yes I see you didn't respond to my reply on that.
Maybe you can do a little better on this one.

I responded twice.
I gave you two opportunities to exit with a bit of dignity but you chose to keep banging on making a bit of a tit of yourself.
So ... Dan Brown is better than The Wire? Or are you going to take the dignified exit this time?

Oh for fuck's sake Shambles don't make me embarass you.
Actually - no - fuck it - I will.
It's a fucking joke. I'm taking the piss out of cultural snobbery with regard to books. I'm being sarcastic - I don't believe that books are necessarily better than telly.
Now - get back to doing your funny comments on questions - you're good at that.

You presume wrongly. I even treated myself to reading the sentence immediately after it.
My post had no bearing on old bugger grips' response though.
I was simply being critical of the low standards you appear to have in attempting to embarrass him.
Of course if you want to play along that the "don't make me embarass you" was also part of your brilliant ruse, give yourself a high five and celebrate by punching a cyclist. Fair enough.

Somebody once bought me a star trek paperback as a joke birthday present.
So I read it ... for a joke like. And it was ace.
It was shit. But ace. I almost went on ebay to buy some more. Except this was in the early 90s and ebay hadn't been invented. So I went to the nearest oxfam to see if they had any. But they didn't. So I bought some tatty old porno paperback instead. For a joke like. That was also shit but it did have a scene where a woman was licked senseless by two afghan hounds. Then we had some hunny. The end.

Jaws and Porn
I agree, apart from Jaws and Porn. They are both much better on TV/film than books.

Science bit
Less Calories are burned watching t.v than during sleep. The brain's energy demand is about a sixth of the body's total. That suggests it's not exactly fertile territory for neuronal network expansion
