We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

Yes
It's not quite as big an ordeal as getting to the end of "Against The Day" which seems to be three fairly good books mixed together in incomprehensible order.
But it's far harder than getting to the end of Mason and Dixon, or Vineland, both of which are splendid. Off the top of my head I can't think of another author with such varied writing styles. Possibly Don DeLillo.
