Harry Potter
That's not fair. I agree that it is not brilliantly written but the story and the characters are great and that more than makes up for it. I think the books are excellent and they have also done a lot towards getting kids who are not interested in reading to read. My nephew for one!
My issue is with the later books which are just far too long. They would have benefitted from significant editing. They should be 20-25% shorter.

About 60% of the final book
is the main characters, hiding in a tent - if that really could have been cut.
