I knew thiswhen I worked at Natwest (not in a call centre) we had a silent hold where we could hear the client. I got so fed up with people hanging up because they thought they had been cut off, or muttering "fucking idiot" I would tell them "i'm putting you on hold, it is a silent hold and I can still hear you".
