And what nobody has bothered to say is ...you sir are a home-grown, garden variety Hero. I would like to clone you repeatedly and dispatch said clones to places of greatest need.
That cnut that smacked you one, for doing one of the hardest jobs of all, needs a big black cellmate called Bubba ... for a looong time.
And another thing ... is there a charge for assaulting a paramedic? Just like the separate, and hopefully more serious, charge of assaulting a police officer? If not, there bloody well should be.
