I think it's the status symbol thingPeople who want a car as a status symbol tend to be of a certain personality type, and that's reflected in their driving. BMWs especially were seen as status symbols, not so much these days, but to that type of person they're still the car to have.
That said, I've just bought an old BM 5-series* - not as a a status symbol, but because it's a lot nicer (albeit much older) than the other cars in my price range I looked at.
I'm not a cunt, but I'll let you know if I become one ;)
*wasted humour on the test drive: I said "I know it's old, but with it being a BMW the indicators will never have been used", and the guy just didn't get it all :D
