This is a question Cheap Tat

OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."

Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.

What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

On the subject of comedy hoovers, Legless has reminded me
The hoover in question wasn't exactly cheap (£70) but it was a bargain as it had been reduced from £140. And it was a proper Hoover being manufactured by said company. It was a bagless upright (basically a Dyson rip off), and I proceeded to spend the next 3 years of ownership using it to push fluff and cat hair around the living room, before resorting to sweeping up the accumulated detritus with a dustpan and brush.

Absolute pile of shite! I gave it away when I moved in with Tourettes. At least she had a proper Dyson, that actually bloody well worked (until it blew up last year anyway).

Funnily enough...
...my mate and I were discussing the virtues of a cheap hoover last night. He says hes going to get one from a charity shop for about £20, and I say he won't - he'll get there, look at the £20, decide to buy a bag of weed with it on the way home and smoke until he doesn't care if the floor needs hoovering or not. He looks at me suspiciously for a second or two and then grins... that's exactly what's happened on at least three occasions :)

Hoover Joy
my fiancee has a slightly OCD cleaning obsession. For her 21st birthday my parents bought her her VERY OWN DYSON. She cried tears of joy.

I'll never buy another Hoover
My parents bought us an upright bagless Dust Manager, especially for pet hair. Couldn't last longer than 10 minutes without clogging up and overheating. Lasted less than a year. We replaced it with a Vax 2200, which is absolutely amazing.
