This is a question Cheap Tat

OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."

Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.

What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

Cheap tools!
I'm a sucker for tools but have slowly learned why Snapon tools are expensive....they don't snap or bend!

Being an engineer I offten need said Spanner of various sizes up to uber giant! My Dad kindly gave me all his really expensive accient spanners all AF (imperial) but soilid as fuck. So I needed some metric ones, a kind relative bought me a set from some dodgy market at about a squid a spanner consequentially none of them are the size they say they are, ie 27mm is not even close and they're all brittal as hell. In the end I gave in a spent hundreds on a good set. The cheap set have been grownd out for variuos bastardised tools.

Don't buy French or Korean cars they're all fucking crap, save up and buy a good Jap or German car (except Mercedes as it'll fall to bits because they're all built by Turkish immigrants who don't give a shit), if your a bird and want a small car then get a Fiesta.

Isn't good Ford a contradiction in terms?

Korean cars
are actually bloody glood, in my experience of the newer Daewoos (sorry, 'Chevrolets') anyway.

Agree with you about tools though. It really is worth spending the cash on a decent set - as I found out when none of the sockets in my Halfords Special socket set would undo any of the bolts on my car.

Ford?
Despite Fords recent advances they are still not what I'd term "the opposite of crap" which is essentially what you have done

They are still more crap than not... step into a new Mondeo and you'll think you've stepped into a poor quality rip off of an Audi A4, step into a new Focus and you'll think you've stepped into a poor quality rip off of a Golf... all cheap immations of German cars

I could go on, but I think you get the point

Golf vs Focus???? Hmm.....
Read this review of used Mk 4 Golfs to the very bottom.

Having owned a couple of Volkswagens, they do go wrong - a lot - and are a helluva lot more expensive to fix than a Ford.

Also, even a well sorted Volkswagen Golf of post 1991 vintage still isn't as nice to drive as a Feck-Arse.

get a Nissan Micra
K10 and K11 Micras are indestructible. I found this out this from experience cos I tried to destroy one by driving it to Mongolia. It survived beautifully offroad.

The new ones are shit though cos Renault took over production.

I used to have a micra
(H reg) which was awesome and never went wrong, then I had two golfs the first one blew up (head gasket) and the second started plotting against me by losing all power at 85mph on the motorway. It is surprising how quickly you start slowing down when you have no drive on the motorway going slightly uphill...
Now I own a fiesta and its cheap and cheerful :)

I keep trying to steal my dads tools as they are snapon but he has metric and I need imperial for my 1972 Marina... which some people will probably say is cheap tat as well but I love them!
