This is a question Cheap Tat

OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."

Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.

What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

I wear pretty much exclusively
Claire's earrings and I've never had any problems with them, other than after about 10 wearings the posts go a bit of a weird colour.

A greenish colour perchance?
Probably due to nickel or copper ions leaching out of the cheap metal in contact with skin moistness. Look closely at the holes in your ears (well, as closely as you can look at your own earlobes...) and check for green-ness. You don't really want that to get into your bloodstream.

Unless of course you are actually an alien and have green blood or something. :-)

I used to do that as well. But, I wear my earrings all the time, even when I sleep (mainly because I'm too lazy to remove them) and thus ended up with nasty green circles around the holes.

Shelled out for some small proper gold studs, and they've been fine. I wear the cheap Claire's costume tat when I go out for an event, 'cause it looks better than the studs.

I have...
...countless times I've bought stud earrings from Claire's, being seduced by shininess and cheapness, only to have the main part of the earring break from the back as I was removing them from the card they came on... :-(
