Cheap Tat
OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."
Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.
What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

Not so much cheap as just fucking crap
Several years ago I thought I better get my computer protected from all the nasty viruses you get when looking at porn on Tinternet So I'd thought I'd go for the most popular being Norton. Don't bother!
Norton Anti virus or any other pay yearly crapy anti virus. Ā£30 I payed for this crap, Norton anti virus blocks everything. Typing a letter in word...
D
Norton (oooo cant let you do that mate.)
e
Norton (Are you sure you want too?)
a
Norton (If you are trying to type dear please shut down all system software)
r
Norton (Right thats it I'm blocking you from using your computer ever again and no you can't uninstall me!)
Total crap just download Avira AntiVirĀ® PersonalEdition Classic for free I've been using it for years and never had any probs or conflicts, actualy just stay off the porn sites. AVG is also very good.
Lenght 12 inches but Norton wont let you play.
Owned a Mac no games on it! Plus they're about as user friendly as monkey guided missle.

This is true
I never understood why people would choose to pay silly money for a crap intrusive programme over a free friendly to use programme.
Guess they just pray on the naive,
I use AVG anti-virus and haven't had a virus since installing it

Agreed. I have always had Macs and am now incurably smug and annoying.

Macs are great
if you want to do precisely one thing with them. Otherwise they are merely expensive and slower versions of a similarly specced PC.

Linux
Just stick Linux on your box, and use WINE for the windows programs :)
(caution, above may contain elements of sarcasm)

Working in IT.....
...people who buy a new comp and Nortons is pre-installed on there; 50% of the time it fucks up and prevents any kind of internet access as it has "not been activated yet". Funnily enough when people decide to use the crap it allows only slightly more access. Pure pain in the ass invention of the devil.
Had 5 jobs come in one day, all back-to-back, Nortons had downloaded an update and knackered every computer's internet access by detecting IE as a threat.

BT Broadband
Yep, I managed to get Norton as part of my broadband package.
All of a sudden, my machine seems to have a number of tasks hogging the system resources.
Bastard.

Or use Linux
Since installing Ubuntu I've become a total smug bastard. OK so it won't suit everyone but it does the job foe me, plus I get all kinds of eye candy on a machine that can run XP but not Vista.

Having used Norton's AV in the past
I'd rather have the virus instead as it fucks up your system less.
I use Kaspersky, relieable, unobtrusive and easy to use.

I *LOVE* Norton
There should be a law, backed by the United Nations, that every computer must have Norton installed on it at the factory.
To date, I reckon I've fixed well over a thousand PC's that had Norton on them. Well, when I say "fixed" I really mean "unistalled Norton and put on AVG and Zone Alarm."
Over the years I reckon I must have made over 20 grand out of Norton. The only bigger earner for me is Micro$oft - I've made a career out of fixing their stuff.
Gawd Bless crappy software....
Cheers

Aha Legless, you've unwittingly revealed the truth...
Norton is a company set up and run entirely by the computer repair industry as a way of increasing their revenue streams.
