DNA FingerprintingAlec Jeffreys was one of my lecturers when he perfected the technique for obtaining 'DNA fingerprints' from tissue samples.
I said to him "'Ere Alec - you want to look at varying the Ph balance in the electrophoresis gel you're using, you'll get clearer results!"
"Great idea, Simon." he said.
The rest is history.
