I don't understand the attraction
Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Human names for dogs.
I've always named my pets quirky, made-up names. I've had cats called Ozwas, Ewok and Blick and a dog called Hickey. I do this for a two reasons - first, I'm a little odd and second, I don't really see why people give animals - particularly dogs - human names.
This struck home recently when I first went back to my boss's house for a social evening. He and his wife have two big labrador dogs, Lucy and Emma, who they both treat like kids. They talk to them as such, buy them toys and treats and act like they're human children.
Does anyone else see this anthropomorphic tragedy?

I don't like it either...
Although, having said that, my cat is called Wilbur, but that's cos we had to change his name, as he turned out to be a boy...
Anyway, whilst I do agree, I think it's great when someone calls their dog a human name, that is definitely not a dog name, like Steve, or Gary, maybe even Trevor.

Too true...
My cats are called Akira and Opus. One named after classic manga, the other after a comic-strip penguin.
At some point there'll be an identity crisis, but it'll be fun to watch.
Whilst I agree with you about giving pets human names, the greater sin is giving children names like Peaches, Apple and Heavenly Harari Tiger Lily.

used to work part time in a boarding kennels and you'd be surprised how many dogs came in with human names.
though my favourite had to be two springer puppys, the owner had called them diane and samantha.
