american, so i don't know how much of this will cross over
first up: that ricky gervais thing. every film "buff" and "connoisseur" over here fucking loves him. I've never thought he was funny or a terribly good actor, but since he's a brit he's suddenly the greatest contemporary comedian that ever lived.

second: weed. i've tried it (quite a few times), don't care for it. everytime i visit a friend, they've got the bong proudly displayed in the front room. like some sort of a trophy or monument. c'mon...

third: singing/rapping stand-up comedians. this shit is on par with ventriloquism. I don't get why everybody loves this stuff. it's not very funny, nor particularly clever. youtube is filled with this garbage.

'like some sort of a trophy or monument.' or probable cause leading to incarceration in a country known for locking people up in unpleasant holes for a long time for victimless crimes related to what they smoke or grow. I'm not averse to a puff from time to time but advertising it always sounded like an unwise option.

Ricky Gervais went to America
Because he'd over-stayed his welcome here, take a look at some of the other posts - most people think he's a cunt. Got lucky with The Office, hit bigtime, went to his head.

His spectacular death at the "Concert for Diana" show at Wembley was buttock-clenching. Had to fill for 30 seconds. Surely not a problem for an experienced and professional stand-up? He clammed up and then did the David Brent dance.

Got lucky with the Office
Then a second ridiculously successful series - and far easier to watch. Interspersed with arena sell-out standup tours and the odd role in Hollywood films. BEFORE going to America.

I'm going on the Gervais defensive, though I can't yet pass judgement on his newest venture it seems to have divided opinion. His first TV series was groundbreaking, and he hasn't been in anything since that could be considered 'shit'. He's a consistent hitter for me.
