This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Camping
This isn't something that bothers me as such. By it's very nature camping tends to done out in the middle of nowhere and thus a long way away from me.
What I don't get is "Why?"
You've dragged yourself out into the moors while carrying every single thing you might require, set up your vinyl wendyhouse and then...what, exactly?
Alright, you might have your mates with you but you can have an equally fun time in a town centre and there's a better chance of geting a kebab. And if you run out of ale you are stuffed.
Plus, you're not really getting back to nature are you? Not with a rucksack full of stuff designed to keep the experience less primitive.
Camping is one of those things I don't get. And I am even more puzzled by North Americans who trek out into the wilderness. At least in the UK you're not going to run into a grizzly unless the universe really, really hates you.

sometimes it's nice
to get away from all the other fuckwits that populate the planet

Glamping
is the new camping. Do it in style, that means proper warmth, an oven and tv ideally. It's not about getting back to nature, although I've done enough rough camping to know what that's all about, but when you can't afford a break, the wife appreciates the luxury, the kids love the outdoors. I'd rather be under canvas any night of the week.
And fun in a town centre? you can keep it thanks!
But the why? Well, it's variety isn't it? If you're not enjoying it you're in the wrong frame of mind.

I camp a lot
but I do it to be as close as possible to where the surf is. As I have my surfboard(s) with me I have my car, and by extension have a tent you can stand up in, a king size airbed, two duvets, numerous pillows, chairs etc.

the place we usually go allows fires, we cook everything on a fire or on a bbq. It is a short walk from one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, a tidal lagoon on the north cornwall coast.

I'd much rather sit round a fire getting stoned, playing music and enjoying myself with a group of mates with the sound of the sea in the background than hanging out in a town centre with all the cunts.
