My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

That's something I really hate seeing tooand, not that I suspect they would do it, I have warned my family that should I ever meet a gory end in such a fashion, they are under no circumstances to waste perfectly good flowers by tying them to a tree or whatever.
