My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.
What stuff do you think is common?

Seriously though, this is on a par with people who refer to 'Cliff Richards' or 'Victoria Woods' even when they're looking at something where that name is WRITTEN DOWN IN FRONT OF THEM!!
