My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

Oh yes there is...There is indeed such a beast (although I'll grant you that it's far from common) - it is merely the wherewithal to think about what you're about to do before you do it, in the hope of not making a stupid mistake. Things like dismissing a perfectly valid concept as nothing more than a bullying tactic (presumably due to frequent occurrences of being on the wrong end of a request for said sense?), or responding mockingly to a post when you have an inkling that it will draw out a bit of a shit-storm. Meh.
