This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Oh yes there is...
There is indeed such a beast (although I'll grant you that it's far from common) - it is merely the wherewithal to think about what you're about to do before you do it, in the hope of not making a stupid mistake. Things like dismissing a perfectly valid concept as nothing more than a bullying tactic (presumably due to frequent occurrences of being on the wrong end of a request for said sense?), or responding mockingly to a post when you have an inkling that it will draw out a bit of a shit-storm. Meh.

Nah!
I won't lower myself to debate the validity of my earlier statement as to do so would simply be 'common'.
