My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

my viewcan't remember where I heard this, but it's correctly pronounced to rhyme with gone, and people pronounce it rhyming with cone to sound posh.
here's a rule for you: real posh people don't give a shit about sounding or looking posh
