My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

In most ways.......my wifes family is distinctly upper-middle-class. They may deny this, but t'would be a foolish thing for I have many points of evidence for such (what they do for their various livings, where they live, their accents and opinions etc. etc. I shall refrain from detailing them.)
BUT...they ALL DO THIS HORRID LIP-SMACKING THING WHEN THEY EAT... and I want to KILL them for it! I was raised* in the East End, and even -I- know how impolite it is to eat with your mouth open! Good Heavens!
*'Raised' may be a loose concept in my case. See my post from last week for details (if you're bored).
