a myth spread by the huge Tin Foil industry. Tin foil will NOT block the mind rays.
Lead will but there is a solid market for lead and there is no need to create artificial demand.
Also, church roofs? Lead.

If they were, they'd collapse.
They have lead around the sides of the roof pitches, which are covered with either tiles, or slates. There are also lead lined valleys at the bottom of the pitches - these are what the thieves go for, as they are large pieces of lead and can just be pulled up and thrown over the side.
90% of the roof area is not lead.
