Until I called up to correct them,
HMRC had been led to believe that I had acquired a 2nd job, and doubled my income. Local government are similarly incapable of supplying up to date information to HMRC (on the plus side, the process of sorting out my mother's tax codes means that I'm now very familiar with the workings of the tax system, and how they generate their codes - whoopee).
