I doubt there is any safe way of grasping a nettle
Its covered in stingy bits. Who would actually think there is a surefire way of grasping them or care enough to try? Wear gloves.
The whole point of the "grasping the nettle" figure of speech is you know you're going to get hurt tacking some problem but you do it anyway even with that foreknowledge.
