Agreed...Book: characters are consuming opium and peering at a severed human head within the first dozen or so pages.
Film: realigned and readjusted so it's suitable for small children. Violence and disfigurement, without a single spot of blood! Fantastic special effects, but the digital characters consistently out-acted the human ones - plus the editing and general pacing were utterly terrible.
Good point on the immediate death required for the second film - but personally, I'd be surprised if it gets made any time soon...
