I built a carout of Lego. Smaller, and without a motor, perhaps, but at least it had proper steering.

I like building lego cars.You can get an infrared remote for the robotics set brick, and make a half decent vehicle.
Mine had steering and 2 gears.

Mine was bigger.It had shit-house steering, no brakes and your gears were operated by the soles of you feet.
