You're not alone
I've done similar when changing a bulb in a cellar without a torch. All was fine until the cellar door shut, making everything go very dark. I went to find the socket and accidentally stuck my finger in it.
It feels like something is continually biting your finger very very quickly.
I thought it was a rat and shit myself.....literally. Even a boil wash couldn't get those boxers clean.
