Expensive Mistakes
coopsweb asks "What's the most expensive mistake you've ever made? Should I mention a certain employee who caused 4 hours worth of delays in Central London and got his company fined £500k?"
No points for stories about the time you had a few and thought it'd be a good idea to wrap your car around a bollard. Or replies consisting of "my wife".

Two things...
'A person who makes no mistakes makes nothing'
'You can't put shit back in a donkey'
When it all goes pear shaped remeber these and you won't find yourself acting like a cunt.
that's all.

That's great
Those are fantastic quotes to use in the engineering game.

Similarly, to remember...
"Shit flows downhill." Very important to remember when you're the low man on the totem pole and something bad happens.
One day one of the engineers was explaining to me why he chose a submersible pump for an application rather than putting one above ground, and he explained that the submersible pump pushes water instead of pulling it. At a certain point you pull a vacuum and the water won't rise any further, so if you nead to pump higher than that point you use a submersible- "Because you can only suck so high."
I commented that this applied to careers as well. He said very little to me after that.

"You can't put shit back in a donkey"
What a frikking Brilliant phrase..
I just used that in a meeting to describe someone else's screwup. I'm indebted.
Also... We regularly look at our managers and state "Shit floats" (to the top)
