Cutting Cake
Me and my sister used to do the 'One cuts, the other chooses' thing with cake and choccy bars and things.

The trick is to do the cutting out of sight, and take a chunk out of the middle and stuff it down *before* going back to the dining room with the two, equal, remaining slices.

I only got caught out because my I left the wrapper on a Mars bar once when I cut it, and my Sister noticed that it now only said 'Mrs' when it was put back together.

I was a mean child.

Something I can't get out of even now is a little ritual when it comes to eating boiled eggs. The *instant* the egg is finished, the spoon has to be put through the bottom of the shell to 'Stop the witches using them as cauldrons and flying about in them'

It's automatic.

I was looked at strangely...
...when letting the witch out. Nowadays, I tend to bash the egg until the witch is well and truly dead.

Cakes and the like
Cut it out of sight as you say but when i used to bring it back into the room I used to put finger in mouth and wipe spit on the larger piece (make sure brother can see this and not parents !)thus helping my younger brother out as was easier for him to choose.

Eggs and witches
I had to beat the crap out of eggshells to stop the witches sailing to sea in them and sinking ships. It's a habit that dies hard ...

Aaargh!
this did make me literally squeal. My mum does that and I know NOBODY else that does. We all thought she was insane. SHe was very pleased to hear that she is not the only one!
