This is a question Family codes and rituals

Freddy Woo writes, "as a child we used to have a 'whoever cuts doesn't choose the slice' rule with cake. It worked brilliantly, but it's left me completely anal about dividing up food - my wife just takes the piss as I ritually compare all the slice sizes."

What codes and rituals does your family have?

Quality Street
Every Xmas, without fail, we would have a box of Quality Street sit under the tree as soon as it went up. But we were NEVER allowed to open it until after xmas dinner.

There were riots every year.

And the tin was the size of a cushion
Same here. And then the fights would begin over who got the caramel barrel. Within three days all the good ones would be gone but we'd still spend ages sifting through the remainder hoping to find a toffee stick or some other gem.

The best one's
were the purple ones with the hazel nut and caramel in it. My second favourites were definately the caramel barrels haha.

If you found a purple one a few days after xmas you were the envy of my house lol.
