Family codes and rituals
Freddy Woo writes, "as a child we used to have a 'whoever cuts doesn't choose the slice' rule with cake. It worked brilliantly, but it's left me completely anal about dividing up food - my wife just takes the piss as I ritually compare all the slice sizes."

I'm a bit scoobied meself
about how many folk find their families annoying habits quirky or amusing.
I think it's a question of getting over it.
I have never experienced anything more catharsising than telling the old pair to fuck off.
They've been a lot more tolerable/tolerant since then.

Hmmm,
I fear we might be suffering from Miserable Irish Childhood/Kids Syndrome (heh, that makes us MICKS). Quick! Write your memoirs!
But honestly, do 99% of b3tards really find their families endearing? That's hugely disappointing.

I used to hate my father when I was a teenager
then I grew out of it when I left home and realised how much better I had it than some kids.
